Led by our certified instructor, the curriculum covers CPR for adults, children, and infants, along with first aid protocols for injuries, burns, choking, and more. Additionally, participants will receive training on how to use an automated external defibrillator (AED) effectively, further enhancing their ability to intervene in critical situations. Whether you're a concerned parent, a caregiver, or simply want to be prepared for emergencies in your community, this program equips you with the knowledge and skills to make a difference when it matters most. Join us in becoming a lifeline for those in need, and together, let's create safer and more resilient communities.~~~~~The primary purpose of the American Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED program is to help participants recognize and respond appropriately to cardiac, breathing and first aid emergencies for adults, children, and infants. This course teaches participants the knowledge and skills needed to give immediate care to an injured or ill person and to decide whether advanced medical care is needed. Participant will receive a certification card after the completion of this course.Optional – May bring a snack and water. Led by our certified instructor, the curriculum covers CPR for adults, children, and infants, along with first aid protocols for injuries, burns, choking, and more. Additionally, participants will receive training on how to use an automated external defibrillator (AED) effectively, further enhancing their ability to intervene in critical situations. Whether you're a concerned parent, a caregiver, or simply want to be prepared for emergencies in your community, this program equips you with the knowledge and skills to make a difference when it matters most. Join us in becoming a lifeline for those in need, and together, let's create safer and more resilient communities.~~~~~The primary purpose of the American Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED program is to help participants recognize and respond appropriately to cardiac, breathing and first aid emergencies for adults, children, and infants. This course teaches participants the knowledge and skills needed to give immediate care to an injured or ill person and to decide whether advanced medical care is needed. Participant will receive a certification card after the completion of this course.Optional – May bring a snack and water. MIN: 2 MAX: 12Instructor Bio: Melissa has been on the Acton Recreation staff for 12 years, as director since 2019. She has worked with children and adults in education and recreation for over 25 years. She received her Bachelor’s Degree from Bridgewater State University in Communications and her Master’s Degree in Recreation Management from Springfield College.

In the United States it’s reported there are more than 3,000,000 active pickleball players.  Pickleball is a blend of badminton, ping-pong and tennis. It’s played on a court measuring 20x44 split by a tennis style net. A court can be set up to be permanent or temporary. The equipment for pickleball is relatively inexpensive, players use a paddle and wiffle-like ball. You can play singles or doubles. The rules are simple, and the game is easy to learn.  Course Description: The BEGINNER PROGRAM (BEG) is for individuals that have never picked up a pickleball paddle or that have limited playing court time. This program will give a student the opportunity to build their game from the ground up before developing bad habits or poor stroke mechanics. You will learn the rules of pickleball, how to keep score, how to grip a paddle, the difference between a drive, drop and dink and how to hit a groundstroke, serve, volley, soft shot, overhead, lob and the 3rd shot drop. This course is essential for all new players that want to have more fun learning and playing pickleball. All equipment will be provided during a class session including paddles, nets, and balls. All you need to do is register, show up, wear tennis shoes (not running shoes) and be prepared to have fun and learn.  ADVANCED BEGINNER/LOW INTERMEDIATE (AB/LI)- for players that have taken the       Beginner class or are less than a 3.25.  The INTERMEDIATE PROGRAM (INT) is for a player that is greater than 3.25, but not yet a 4.0. If you have never taken a lesson or need a tune up or have questions regarding court awareness, stroke development (drive, drop and dink), or shot selection this program is designed for you. The program will review your shot mechanics, focus on how to deal with bangers, how to tactically transition to the non-volley line, work on consistency, court positioning, footwork, paddle control, game-play strategy and share fundamental knowledge of stacking and poaching. He directs all pickleball operations to include private, semi-private pickleball lessons and clinics, daily open-play pickleball sessions (Monday-Friday from 6am to 4:00p), organizes and supervises tournaments, leagues and pickleball special events. In addition, Donald is a tournament medalist, the Senior state champion in Men’s Doubles and Mixed Doubles, a Level 1 Referee, and a USA Pickleball Association Ambassador.Donald works to create a safe, encouraging, and fun learning environment for pickleball beginners to tournament contenders and coaches’ players of all levels to prepare for recreational and competitive play. Donald emphasizes the mechanics and strategy of pickleball.Along with coaching, Donald is skilled at designing operational systems for pickleball membership, court assignment and program management. Note: Children should wear athletic or tennis apparel and sneakers, bring a filled water bottle and a racket if he/she has one.--The beginner class teaches kids the basic fundamental skills and techniques.--For kids with experience, these classes provide an opportunity for more match play and strategy.
